PROFESSOR MICHAEL PATTON

Professor Michael Patton is Head of the Department of Medical Genetics at St George's Hospital Medical School, London. The Department combines clinical and laboratory research into inherited disorders with close collaboration with the Regional Genetic Service, which serves a population of three million. It is conducting active gene mapping projects into malformation syndromes such as Noonan syndrome, lymphoedema, skeletal dysplasias and congenital deafness. It is also conducting mutation research on adult polycystic kidney disease, breast cancer, and hypertension.

Professor Patton is also Medical Director of the Birth Defects Foundation charity, a research team based at Imperial College, London. The Foundation is a national charity that supports research into the causes of birth defects and provides professional support to families affected by birth abnormalities.
